University of Tsukuba 3rd Overseas Alumni Conference 2017
2017/07/07
Tsukuba Global Science Week (TGSW) 2017 will be held from September 25 to 27. As one of the sessions, the 3rd Overseas Alumni Conference (OAC) 2017 is scheduled on September 26 (Tuesday) and the flyer is now available. If you take a closer look at the flyer, you might be wondering why an image of a "frog" (kaeru) is on it (and actually has been on OAC materials from the start). There are three reasons:
1) Mt. Tsukuba, a landmark of Tsukuba City and one of the 100 famous mountains in Japan, has a toad-shaped shrine and toad paraphernalia from toad medicines to toad grease and toad ceramics. Toad is "gama gaeru" in Japanese. The frog used on the OAC flyer is a "tree frog".
2) "Kaeru" refers not only to frogs but also to the verb "to return" or "to come home". OAC will be one of the good reasons for alumni to come back to Tsukuba.
3) Another meaning of "kaeru" is the verb "to change". We hope that this alumni network will be a useful means to connect people, which could lead to changes in your lives and in yourself.
We will keep you posted of updates regarding OAC.
